Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Conference – 14th June

In General Practice, we recognise the importance of creating a culture that is equal, diverse and inclusive and that reflects the rich diversity of our patients and workforce. With a wonderfully diverse team to support, we are committed to making this a priority.
This conference will focus on why equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) matters in General Practice, what the data shows us and what C&W Training Hub are doing to support EDI in General Practice.
It will be a platform to share new ideas that will stimulate our thinking about EDI and an opportunity to draw on a wide range of best practice and learnings from across the country.

Health and Wellbeing PLT
We are piloting a face to face Health and Wellbeing PLT this summer in two ‘places’; Warwickshire North on 21st June and South Warwickshire on 29th June. If these pilots are successful, we will look to run them in Rugby and Coventry.
The Health and Wellbeing PLTs are open to all staff working in General Practice.
You will hear about the Health and Wellbeing programme, and hear from experts in the health and wellbeing space and we hope you will leave armed with tips and tools to support your wellbeing and an understanding of the wellbeing support available to you.

Physician Associate Intern Programme – July 2023
We are excited to share that the Training Hub will be supporting practices to support their Physician Associates intern year in General Practice. In collaboration with HEE, CWTH will be offering an education package for the PA’s education sessions.

Peer-2-Peer Case Review – PAs and Paramedics
The Peer-2-Peer Case Review forum is proving very successful. The next session is planned for Tuesday, May 16th.
Within the forum, Paramedics and PAs can discuss cases they have seen within their practices. This will allow you to reflect on others, and your own, experience, research, and current practice.
Lipid Management Session – A great success!
The training hub worked with the WM AHSN to deliver a very successful session on lipid management on Wednesday 19th April. This was well received by all participants and gave attendees the tools to initiate a statin, change to a high intensity statin and understand referral pathways for familial hypercholesteremia. The learning supports delivery of the 2023/4 CV DES and QOF.
West Midlands AHSN will be delivering the second part of the Impulse training focusing on hypertension on Wednesday 24th May 2023 and this is open to all healthcare professionals.
FCP Work in Coventry
Since April 2021, UHCW has provided the First Contact Practitioner (FCP) Musculoskeletal service to seven Primary Care Networks across Coventry. The FCP service was initially delivered within 37 GP practices covering 56 sessions per week and has since expanded to 68 sessions per week.

DES Update for PCNs
NHS England has said it will add advanced clinical practitioner nurses to roles eligible for reimbursement as advanced practitioners, and apprentice physician associates to the ARRS from April 2023.

PCNs will now be able to claim reimbursement for the time that First Contact Practitioners spend out of practice when undertaking education and training to become Advanced Practitioners.

Professional Curiosity Scheme – Round Two applications are now open!
Exciting times at the Training Hub this month as we are officially launching the Professional Curiosity Scheme for its second year! Last year saw over 70 clinicians from across Coventry and Warwickshire take part in the scheme, formalising a shadow scheme between consultants and general practice.
An evaluation of last years scheme showed the following:
- 84% of clinicians enjoyed the experience
- 91% of clinicians felt that their clinical practice may be changed by the experience
- 80% felt that they gained clinical knowledge from the scheme
- 98% of clinicians agreed that they would recommend this scheme to others

First5 Event – Thursday 18th May
First5 GPs in C&W are invited to this event, “Supporting Perinatal Mental Health: Strategies and Insights for GPs” with guest speaker Dr. Lucy Blunt, GP in South Warwickshire, Gynae GPwSI and Faculty Approved DFSRH trainer with a special interest in menopause, community gynaecology and family planning.
