Coventry and Warwickshire Training Hub are committed to supporting general practice in creating a compassionate and inclusive culture.

Four-month visa extension for newly qualified GPs
The government has introduced an additional four months on Skilled Worker visas for GPs completing GP Specialty Training (GPST). This will allow newly qualified GPs extra time to secure work with an employer and arrange sponsorship with them. This will also provide GP practices more time to obtain a new visa sponsorship license if they have recruited a newly qualified GP and do not already have a license.
If your practice does not have a visa sponsorship license and would like to obtain one, please visit the link below. The Training Hub can offer reimbursement of up to £600 for practices applying for this license.
CVD Workshop: Heart Failure – 27th September
This event is open to all healthcare professionals in primary care and other sectors who are involved in the diagnosis and management of Heart Failure which includes GPs, Practice managers, Nurses (community, practice-based, hospital), Health Care Assistants, Pharmacists (community, ICB, practice-based, hospital), social prescribers, health and wellbeing coaches, paramedics, physicians associates etc.
At the end of this workshop, attendees will:
- Have an awareness of the recommended heart failure pathway of care.
- Have an understanding of why heart failure is important in the wider context of Cardiovascular Disease prevention and in relation to CORE20Plus5.
- Have an understanding of the novel therapies available for heart failure management
- Understand the importance of case finding to support the identification of people who will benefit from heart failure therapies and/or optimisation.

Health and Wellbeing
Health and Wellbeing programme – QOF QI Wellbeing
Workforce wellbeing, improving resilience, and risk of burnout is now more than ever essential for the retention and recruitment of the general practice workforce and so the 2023/24 QOF guidance includes a module on workforce and wellbeing.
Our Health and Wellbeing programme offers a fully funded Health and Wellbeing Champion working across your PCN, wellbeing resources such as ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ and an annual H&WB survey from which an action plan of support is shared with the PCN.
IF you:
- Have a Health and Wellbeing Champion
- Share wellbeing resources
- Encourage staff to take part in the annual H&WB survey
- Have Health and Wellbeing as an agenda item for your PCN meeting regularly (with minutes to evidence)
The Training Hub offer would satisfy all practices within your PCN qualifying for the full 37 points.

Foundations of Immunisation Courses
This training is 2 days for Healthcare Support Workers, tNAs and Registered Health Care Professionals new to immunisation, both days must be attended. Please note, there are separate course dates dependent upon your role.

- 25th & 26th September – Foundation Training in Immunisation for H/C Support Workers and tNAs – £150

Professional Curiosity Scheme – Round Two applications are now open!
Exciting times at the Training Hub this month as we are officially launching the Professional Curiosity Scheme for its second year! Last year saw over 70 clinicians from across Coventry and Warwickshire take part in the scheme, formalising a shadow scheme between consultants and general practice.
An evaluation of last year’s scheme showed the following:
- 84% of clinicians enjoyed the experience
- 91% of clinicians felt that their clinical practice may be changed by the experience
- 80% felt that they gained clinical knowledge from the scheme
- 98% of clinicians agreed that they would recommend this scheme to others

Wise 5 Launch Event
Earlier this month our Wise 5 GP Network launch event took place at Woodland Grange in Leamington Spa. Bringing together ‘late career’ GPs, it was great to see so many attend this event. Thank you to those who attended and left feedback, including the lovely comment below.

Parental Leave Support Network
The Parental Leave Support Circle, led by Dr. Sasha Darwazeh, held its first meeting on Tuesday the 27th of June. Parents and their little ones came together in a warm and welcoming atmosphere, sharing experiences, and forming connections.
The next event will be held on the 26th of September.

GPN News
Nurse Peer Support & Clinical Supervision
Peer Support and Clinical Supervision involve clinicians meeting regularly to reflect on practice with the intention of reflective learning, developing practice, and providing high-quality, safe care to patients.
The Training Hub will be offering a series of Peer Support and Clinical Supervision sessions in small groups to registered nurses. These sessions will take place via Microsoft Teams, to register your interest, please email us.

Cervical Screening – Guide for Good Practice
Please read the attached letter from Petty Trowel, Quality Lead, regarding cervical samples being sent to UHCW instead of RWH. Practices are asked to act upon this to minimise delays in results/risk of lost samples.
