Men’s Health Week 2022 – 13th – 19th June
Brought to you by Men’s Health Forum – for this year’s Men’s Health Week, which runs 13-19 June it’s time for men everywhere, to give ourselves an MOT.
Time for your MOT
Why do men need an MOT?
While we’ve been focused on the pandemic we’ve taken our eyes off other serious conditions.
We know early stage cancer diagnoses fell by third in first lockdown and that shortfall has continued. Macmillan reckon that around 50,000 of us have missed a cancer diagnosis during the pandemic.

That’s not because prostate cancer is getting rarer (it isn’t), but because men weren’t seeing their GPs to begin to get diagnosed. Indeed, male GP visits fell more than female visits. There were good reasons for this fall during lockdown but not now.
Our message to men
It’s a simple one: it’s time for your MOT
- Take notice of what’s going on in your body and mind

- Dig a bit deeper with our existing Man MOT manuals: Man MOT and Man MOT for the Mind
- Get an NHS Health Check
- Go and see your GP or use NHS 111 if you’re concerned about any symptoms

Wellbeing Conversations
NHSE/I are pleased to confirm that the ‘Having safe and effective wellbeing conversations’ training programme has been extended into 2022/23.
The programme is delivered by trained professionals from Passe Partout, it is aimed at line managers (of any profession, banding or grade), peers and colleagues working across the NHS in roles which have caring responsibilities for staff .
Feedback from the initial cohort delivered in 2021/22 was incredibly positive, with 88.9% of delegates who completed the post course survey reporting that they felt confident or very confident to initiate a wellbeing conversation after attending the training.

You will have the opportunity to:
- Learn more about what a wellbeing conversation is
- Learn when it may be appropriate to initiate one
- Develop your knowledge and skills to have safe and compassionate conversations about various aspects of wellbeing
Passe Partout also advises how to safely signpost staff to additional support when needed, and offer an opportunity to practice a conversation in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space of the session.
If you are interested in attending, please see here to view available dates.

Tell us how you are – Primary Care Wellbeing survey
The latest wellbeing survey is now open for all staff working across primary care. The survey takes 10 minutes to complete – please let us know how you are and how we can further support you and your teams.

Thank you to everyone who completed the previous wellbeing survey back in January. Results show that wellbeing and resilience of the workforce remains a challenge. As we continue to work under many pressures, we encourage you and your teams to seek support if needed.
The health and wellbeing support is available on the NHSEI FutureNHS space. This includes the award-winning coaching programme, support for managing patients and promotional resources to share with teams.
