Race Equality Week – 2nd – 8th February

Race Equality Week provides an important opportunity to reflect on how racial inequality continues to affect experiences, progression and wellbeing across primary care and training. Our workforce is richly diverse, and this diversity is one of our greatest strengths. However, we also recognise that equity is not always experienced equally.

Within primary care and training environments, racial inequality can influence access to support, differential attainment, career progression and a sense of belonging. Addressing this goes beyond awareness alone; it requires sustained commitment, open and honest conversations, and practical action from all of us – educators, supervisors, leaders, colleagues and trainees.

At CWTH, we are committed to fostering inclusive learning and working environments through initiatives such as EDIB, REACH Network, targeted support for international medical graduates, work addressing differential attainment and ongoing engagement with staff and the wider general practice workforce to better understand lived experiences. These programmes aim to ensure that support is equitable, accessible and responsive to the needs of our diverse workforce.

Find out more about CWTH and REACH initiatives here:

As one colleague shared:
“Belonging isn’t just about being present — it’s about feeling seen, supported and able to succeed without having to work twice as hard.”

Race Equality Week invites us all to reflect on our own roles and consider how we can contribute to meaningful change — by listening, challenging bias and supporting one another. Together, we can continue to build a primary care and training environment where everyone feels valued and has the opportunity to thrive.
