Lunch and Learn Training – How to beat loneliness working on the frontline

Wednesday 11th December – 12:30pm

Open to anyone working in and supporting General Practice!

Being connected to others with a sense of belonging is one of the most important pillars of wellbeing.  Loneliness is probably worse for us than smoking, obesity or inactivity and is associated with a shorter and less happy life.

We often think of this when considering our patients’ lives, but what about our own?  Frontline workers deserve just as much support as those they are trying to help.

Join Dr Richard Pile, a GP with a passion for Lifestyle Medicine and Cardiology, and you’ll learn:

✔︎ That we can all be affected by loneliness which has real and serious associated health risks.  Far from protecting us from this, being a frontline worker puts us in harm’s way.

✔︎ Having the right connections in life is one of the most important things you can do for your wellbeing, including those at work where you spend a lot of your time.

✔︎ Relationships are like plants in a garden:  there’s a time for sowing, nurturing, pruning… and weeding.

When you register, you’ll also get access to recordings of the previous trainings and lots of other helpful resources.

Why Self-Care ISN’T Selfish

This month’s video is a 5 minute insight into ‘Why Self-Care isn’t Selfish.’

Hear Dr Rachel Morris talk about the importance of self-care to re-energise ourselves.

There’s a team wellbeing activity to go with it (of 5 mins, 20 mins or 40 mins – you choose) which you can use in a meeting.

Disability History Month

Disability History Month runs from 14 November until 20 December 2024. This year, the focus is on disability livelihood and employment in the health and care sector.

Do you know what is the definition of disability? Are your getting the reasonable adjustments you are entitled to legally? If you are an employer, are you aware of the employers’ obligations and how to meet them?

Join us on the 11th December at 7pm by registering here. Dr Aaliya Goyal, a GP with special interest in Public Health will be our guest speaker. She will explain the basic definitions and answer your questions in a safe space for all. We will also learn from the experience of staff with disability and the importance of meeting their reasonable adjustments needs.

According to the NHS Staff Survey, nearly 1 in 4 of our NHS workforce has lived experience of a disability or long-term condition.

Disability History Month is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate those people who bring personal lived experience of disability and long-term health conditions to their careers, teams, leadership and patient care.

REACH Staff Network Event – Wednesday 11th December

Our REACH Staff Network would like to invite you to learn about working with disability in General Practice and the concept of intersectionality.
