The National Education and Training Survey (NETS) will open again on Tuesday 18th October and remain live for six weeks until the 30th of November 2022.

The survey is open to all learners on clinical placements. This includes all undergraduate and postgraduate students, doctors, and dentists in training undertaking a practice placement or training post in all healthcare services across England. The NETS allows Health Education England (HEE) to gather feedback from learners on clinical placements from across the NHS, allowing them to compare views nationally and across all learner and professional groups. The survey complements other surveys, such as the National Student Survey and the GMC national training survey.

The survey takes just 15-20 minutes to complete and submissions are kept anonymous, allowing HEE to create reports at a national, regional, local, and even individual placement level.

For more information on how NETS can improve your learning experience, take a look at the ‘You said, we listened’ webpage: https://orlo.uk/VfdXl

Why is the NETS survey important?

  • In November 2021, over 49% of learners told NETS that they are not aware of who their local Freedom to Speak Guardian was.
  • 94% of learners confirmed that they knew how to raise concerns in the clinical learning environment, but only 81% felt comfortable doing so.
  • 15% of learners reported experiencing bullying and/or harassment in their most recent clinical/practice placement or training post.

How can I get involved?

Learners will be sent a personalised link from Health Education England (HEE); alternatively, you can access the survey here.
